Steele to assist with distributing smoke alarms Saturday

Brackenridge, Tarentum residents can sign up for free alarm installation

TARENTUM, May 6 – State Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, will partner with the American Red Cross and local fire companies for a Sound the Alarm Smoke Detector Event for the residents of Tarentum and Brackenridge this Saturday.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Red Cross, community volunteers and local fire companies will be installing smoke alarms throughout Brackenridge and Tarentum. Residents may register for an appointment by calling the American Red Cross at 412-263-5278.

“Having a working smoke alarm in your home can alert you sooner to a fire, giving you and your family a few extra minutes to get out,” Steele said. “This event can save lives, and I hope everyone will take advantage of this event.”

The local fire companies participating in this event are Pioneer Hose Co., Summit Hose Co., Highland Host Volunteer Fire Co. and Eureka Fire-Rescue Station 281.

The event is part of Steele’s and the Red Cross’ efforts to educate people about home fire safety and help those who can’t afford it or are physically unable to install a smoke alarm get this lifesaving device.

As the state representative for the 33rd Legislative District, Steele continues to work to keep residents safe. In October, Steele and the Red Cross held a similar event in Natrona.
