Celebrating the Fourth of July

Video

This past weekend marked our nation’s 250th anniversary – a time for celebration and reflection on what this great moment means for all of us as we continue to fulfill the meaning and ideals of the founding of the United States of America. You can hear my remarks on this occasion by clicking on the above video.

As part of this weekend’s festivities, my family and I joined our neighbors in McCandless for the Greybrooke Fourth of July parade – a family tradition in the neighborhood where my wife Veena grew up.

Hampton Township Community Day

This weekend, my staff and I also attended Hampton Township Community Day. It was wonderful to see so many of our neighbors out for this summer tradition!

Thank you to the Township leaders and staff, first responders, vendors, performers, and attendees for what is always a great celebration.

Stay Safe and Cool in Allegheny County this Summer

To help everyone stay safe when temperatures rise, here are some important tips and resources from state and county officials:

Be sure to check on neighbors, friends, and relatives—especially older adults, those with health conditions, and those without air conditioning—and remember these additional heat-related tips from the Allegheny County Emergency Services:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Limit time outdoors, especially at midday.
  • Never leave kids or pets in a car.
  • If you need to be outdoors, be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, nausea, headache, or excessive sweating.
  • When in doubt, take a break, cool down and seek help.

Franklin Park Wants to Hear from You

The Franklin Park Recreation Board is seeking input on how to improve the quality of the borough’s recreational opportunities, park facilities, and trails. The survey is open to residents, business owners, workers in Franklin Park, and anyone who frequents the borough’s parks.

The survey can be completed here. Responses are due August 31.
