My next shredding event to help you safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents is taking place tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, at Ohio Township Community Park (325 Nicholson Rd., Sewickley, PA).

We will be on site from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or until the truck is full. Each car may bring up to two boxes of paper for disposal.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation and Pennsylvania's Constitution, I had the honor of attending a ceremonial meeting of the House held at Congress Hall in Philadelphia, where the first meetings of Congress took place and where our Constitution was ratified.

As we spent the day reflecting on our history, we also had time to look toward the future. It was wonderful to welcome Arjun Puri, a senior from the North Allegheny School District, to Philadelphia, where he had the opportunity to learn more about state government and the history that helped to create and shape our nation.

During the opening of this historic session, I gave the Hindu prayer of Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, a universal wish for peace, health, and happiness for all living beings. As the first and only member of the Hindu faith to serve in our State House, it was a special privilege to express the importance of diversity of religious belief that is a foundation of our Commonwealth and nation.

Family-owned businesses are backbones of communities across Pennsylvania; some having been here nearly as long as our state. That is why I am joining with the House's newest member, Rep. Brandon Dukes of Butler County, to introduce legislation that would modernize inheritance tax exemptions for family-owned businesses.

House Bill 2769 will ensure that more family businesses can qualify for inheritance tax exemptions so these establishments can stay where they belong – in their families and in our communities.

This week, Pennie, the state's health insurance marketplace, announced that over 200,000 people have disenrolled from their health insurance due to inaction from the federal government to renew enhanced premium tax credits.

As an emergency physician, I have seen how access to affordable health insurance can make the difference in whether someone seeks coverage for an illness, which can have life or death ramifications.

The House overwhelmingly passed H.B. 2550, legislation I co-prime sponsored which would create a state tax credit for small businesses that contribute to their employees’ health coverage. It is time for the Senate to act to ensure that more Pennsylvanians can afford crucial healthcare coverage.

It's always great to continue our team tradition of grabbing lunch at the Taste of Greece at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in McCandless. I hope everyone had the opportunity to come out for this wonderful event.

PRT has recently announced newly proposed changes to bus lines across our region, and there are several changes locally. Some of the most notable changes include:

• Increased frequency along McKnight Road.
• Increased frequency for routes connecting the McCandless Park and Ride to Oakland and Downtown.
• A new connection from Downtown to AHN Wexford.
• The discontinuation of the Mount Royal line and Thompson Run Flyer.
• New connections for Emsworth and Ben Avon to Bellevue, West View, and McKnight Road.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council has announced the 2026 Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest, which brings attention to litter problems in communities across Pennsylvania.
