Updates on my Legislation
This week, two pieces of legislation I introduced advanced through the legislative process.
The House Transportation Committee unanimously advanced HB 2304, my legislation with Rep. Powell that would remove the renewal fee on state IDs for seniors who gave up their driver’s license for medical reasons.
When a senior citizen gives up their driver’s license due to a medical condition or physical impairment, it is a profound challenge for him or her. We do not charge for a state ID at that time. We should not subsequently charge for renewal of that state ID.
The House passed HR 534, which directs the Joint State Government Commission to study the factors associated with medical students choosing a primary care career and how we can promote their choosing to practice primary care in our Commonwealth.
Welcoming my Intern to the Capitol – and other Harrisburg Updates
I was proud to welcome my fall intern Lucinda to the State Capitol and introduce her to House Speaker Joanna McClinton. A junior studying political science at Pitt, Lucinda has done great work for our community, and we wish her the best in her studies.
It was an honor to be recognized by LeadingAge PA as one of their 2025-2026 Legislative Champions. As an emergency physician, I am well aware of the critical importance of high-quality nursing home care to our community and Commonwealth. As a State Representative, I continue to advocate for policies to support our nursing homes. Thank you for this recognition and the work LeadingAge PA and its members do every day to care for so many in need.
It was great to meet with second-year medical students from the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine during their visit to the State Capitol. As a physician-legislator, I am grateful for these medical students who are learning how to be the next generation of advocates for our patients, communities, and profession.
I also had the opportunity to meet with and speak to members of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists during their advocacy day in the State Capitol. Thank you for your work to advance women’s health across Pennsylvania.
Discussing AI Usage in Healthcare
I recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Joint Commission UNIFY conference to discuss state and federal policies on AI and Healthcare, including my bipartisan legislation on this topic, HB 1925, that recently passed the State House. Thank you for the opportunity to present on the critical importance of regulating AI’s use in healthcare for the safety and benefit of the public.
Supporting Pennsylvania’s Radiologists
Radiologists are a critical part of our physician workforce. I recently had the privilege of speaking at the annual Pennsylvania Radiological Society meeting in Pittsburgh on the topic of physician advocacy. Thank you for the kind invitation and the work of your members to improve the health of Pennsylvanians.

Celebrating our Local Student Athletes

The Girls’ Tennis team at North Allegheny took first and third place at the Section 2 Doubles Tournament. Junior Mia Kaufman and sophomore Sammy Leeman successfully defended their crown, while senior Remi Hayward and junior Medha Thirumala placed third.

Both the Girls and Boys Cross Country teams from North Allegheny swept the recent WPIAL Division I Section 3 Championship, with the girls finishing 6-0 and the boys finishing 7-0. In addition, sophomore Gatik Hirwani won the individual Section 3 championship in 15:57, lowering the North Park course record by nearly 40 seconds.
