Venkat announces $20,000 to combat food insecurity for La Roche students

MCCANDLESS, Jan. 11 – To combat food insecurity on campus, the Department of Education today awarded La Roche University in McCandless a $20,000 grant, Rep. Arvind Venkat, D-Allegheny, announced.

“Low-income students face financial issues with paying for higher education, but also accessing affordable food while balancing their coursework,” Venkat said. “When students feel hungry, their academic performance falters. To help students succeed in their pursuit of higher education, La Roche University will receive state grant funding to combat food insecurity, benefiting hundreds of students in McCandless.”

He added, “With the cost of higher education increasing, this grant will make higher education more accessible for low-income students and ease their worries about struggling to afford food while receiving their college education in our community.”
