Burns encourages organizations to apply for workforce development grant

Program to fund efforts to address barriers to employment

EBENSBURG, March 2 – Continuing his efforts to promote Cambria County’s economic development, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today encouraged organizations to apply for a possible $300,000 state workforce development grant.

“Over the last several years I’ve helped organizations and groups in Cambria County secure more than $1 million in funding for workforce and economic development programs, part of my commitment to do all that I can to help our local economy grow,” Burns said. “Our region must fight for every opportunity that comes our way, that’s why my office stands ready to assist any qualified organization that has the means and knowledge to help put Cambria County to work.”

Department of Labor & Industry: Strategic Innovation Grants

Eligibility: Local workforce development boards, nonprofit and non-governmental entities, community-based organizations, education and post-secondary organizations, labor organizations, business associations and economic development entities. Applicant must be capable of bringing together business, education, workforce, community and other partners to achieve program goals.

Uses: Innovative programs to address barriers to employment, including but not limited to: individuals with a criminal record and/or re-entering the community; transportation; childcare; occupational licensure; access to education and training; language barriers; homelessness; disability; and transitioning from public assistance.

Funds: Up to $300,000 per application.
