Burns: Nearly $200,000 for summer work internships

Local grant part of $4.7 million awarded across Pennsylvania

EBENSBURG, March 5 – Today state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced that the Southern Alleghenies Workforce Development Board has been selected to receive more than $190,000, part of a $4.7 million investment in workforce development boards across Pennsylvania.

“We all know that some kids learn best by doing, which is why I am thrilled to hear about this summer internship program happening in our area,” Burns said. “Any time that we can get young adults hands-on experience in the workforce is another chance for them to develop the skills and contacts they will need to be successful in the future.”

The $191,674 grant from the state Department of Labor and Industry will help to fund local internship programs, which will provide nearly 1,500 summer internships across Pennsylvania.

The 2020 program will operate for an eight-week period between May 1 and Aug. 28. The program will offer wages at a minimum of $10.35 an hour for young adults between 16 and 24 years.
