Burns: $50,000 grant to address acid mine drainage in Gallitzin

Grant will fund treatment system for mine discharge

EBENSBURG, Oct.  7 – Continuing decades-long efforts to clean up acid mine drainage that threatens local water supplies, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that a project in Gallitzin Township was selected to receive a $50,000 state grant.

“This project should help put an end to decades of pollution from old mines in the Gallitzin area, protecting area water supplies for generations to come,” Burns said. “It is also another example of how I’ve worked tirelessly with state programs and organizations to find funding for vital projects in our region, which has always been a priority of mine.”

The grant, awarded to the Clearfield Creek Watershed Association, will pay for the design and permitting of an acid mine drainage treatment system for Sand Springs.

Since taking office, Burns has helped secure more than $200 million in state and federal funds for Cambria County programs and projects, from water and sewer infrastructure to social programs and parks and recreation projects.
