Burns: $482,524 in grants to plan multi-county ATV trail system and expand Ghost Town Trail

Funding will promote continued growth of outdoor recreation

EBENSBURG, Oct.  15 – Cambria County’s recreational tourism industry is continuing to grow thanks to $482,524 in state grants, state Rep. Frank Burns announced today.

The grants will fund the planning of a six-county regional ATV trail system by the Allegheny Ridge Recreation Association and will enable the Cambria County Conservation and Recreational Authority to continue to grow the popular Ghost Town Trail.

Burns noted that as a long-standing member of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, which has held hearings on expanding ATV trails, he knows there’s a strong desire for this kind of recreation.

“Working together with the Allegheny Ridge Recreation Association, we were able to secure the funding for this study,” Burns said. “This is the first step in creating a multi-county trail system, which would bring significant tourism dollars to our region upon completion.”

In the last two years, Burns has secured more than $600,000 in state investment in Cambria County’s outdoors, including funding for parks, hiking trails, ATV activity areas and fishing access.

“These continued investments demonstrate my commitment to developing outdoor recreation in a smart, sensible way while preserving them for future generations,” Burns said. “Since taking office, I’ve helped steer more than $200 million in state and federal funding back to our communities, and I’ll never stop fighting for the people I represent.”
