Burns: $1.9 million in state funding to expand childcare access

Grant to help fund services at up to 10 childcare centers in region

EBENSBURG, Feb. 14 – In an effort to support working families and locally owned small businesses state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced the state is sending $1.9 million in to help support services at up to 10 childcare centers in the region.

“Parents can’t work when their children’s care is up in the air, which is why this state grant is critical,” Burns said. “This funding won’t just support jobs at these centers, but in doing so will allow other parents to rejoin the workforce, stabilizing our local economy.”

The $1.9 million state grant, funded by the state’s Community Development Block Grant – Cares program, was awarded to the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission through the Partnership for Regional Economic Performance. The grant will support jobs at up to 10 childcare centers throughout the Allegheny region.

Since taking office Burns has put economic development at the forefront of his efforts and has helped to secure more than $275 million in state and federal funding for projects and programs large and small, for everything from community parks to education technology and workforce development.
