Burns: Greater Johnstown CTC awarded $50,000 state grant

Grant part of state program to purchase equipment for high-demand careers

EBENSBURG, Dec. 21 – The Greater Johnstown Career and Technical Center has been awarded a $50,000 state grant, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced today.

The grant, one of 33 awarded to technical centers Wednesday, is part of a program to help centers purchase equipment for high-demand careers.

“Having access to the latest equipment used in technical fields is vitally important when it comes to preparing youth to enter those fields,” Burns said. “These grants are designed to make sure our students are using the same equipment as their industry peers, so they can hit the ground running.”

Over the last several years the state has invested heavily in career and technical centers and other jobs programs, expanded apprenticeships that provide an income during training and realigned workforce development programs to prepare students to enter the workforce.

As a legislator Burns has supported these investments locally, and worked at the state level to improve Cambria County and Pennsylvania’s economic competitiveness, by authoring and supporting legislation to help industries and small businesses, improve transportation connections and lower taxes through things like the Keystone Opportunity Zone he brough to the area.
