Burns secures $3 million in state grants for local projects
Project funding will ease the burden on municipalities and local taxpayers

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 — Drawing on his seniority, experience, and strong working relationships with local officials, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced more than $3 million in state grants for 20 worthwhile projects across the 72nd Legislative District.
Burns said he personally met with officials from many of the municipalities and organizations to gain a full understanding of their needs and the impact on the community, and that these grant awards are the direct result of those meetings.
“By working closely with local municipal officials and drawing on my experience and seniority in Harrisburg, we were able to secure more than $3 million for much-needed projects and equipment,” Burns said. “I will continue to fight for our fair share of state funding—you have my word.”
The projects receiving grants are:
- Nanty Glo Borough: $318,240 for levee system improvements.
- East Conemaugh Borough: $163,500 for Veterans Memorial Park transformation.
- Adams Croyle Recreation Authority: $63,019 for an equipment purchase.
- Blacklick Township: $34,052 for park renovations.
- Glosser Brothers Building: $150,000 for a roof replacement.
- Bishop McCort High School: $178,500 for gym upgrades.
- Red Cross of Chestnut Ridge and Allegheny Mountains: $300,000 to purchase vehicles for use in Johnstown.
- Conemaugh Township: $44,492 for police equipment.
- Conemaugh Township: $262,000 for road rehabilitation.
- Conemaugh Township: $68,478 for tractor attachments.
- Daisytown Borough: $68,998 for an excavator.
- East Taylor Township: $$130,848 for playground rehabilitations.
- East Taylor Township: $73,000 for electrical upgrades to the township building and police department.
- Ebensburg Borough: $42,000 for Ebensburg Memorial Ballfield restorations
- West End Ambulance Service: $459,900 for building renovations.
- Nanty Glo Fire Co.: $259,033 for building renovations.
- Upper Yoder Township: $123,600 for a backhoe purchase
- Upper Yoder Township: $69,593 for a police vehicle
- Citizens Fire Co. of Vintondale: $64,398 for fire apparatus
- Vintondale Borough: $177,592 for flood maintenance equipment

Burns noted these improvements will make a difference in the quality of life to residents in Cambria County and save local taxpayers money.
The grants awarded today come from Local Share Account funds, the Flood Mitigation Program, and the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. They are approved and distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
With the grants approved today, Burns has delivered more than $400 million to the district since taking office.
