You Can Act to Advance Natural Gas Safety
Degraded pipelines can lead to major accidents if not addressed correctly. That's why the PA House passed HB 1526, which will require the development of guidance and management programs to address degrading pipelines.
Now, this bill and two others to address these causes await to move in the state Senate. You can make your voice heard to the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee to advance these lifesaving bills by filling out the form found here.

Delivering for You in Harrisburg
Vision problems can have lifelong impacts, especially on our students, as unaddressed vision problems can cause headaches and a lack of focus in class and even impact grades.
That is why I am excited to share that the House passed my legislation, HB 1077, which will establish a Commission on Children’s Vision to ensure that all students have access to eyeglasses at little to no cost to students or their families.
The House also unanimously passed HB 1877, legislation I co-prime sponsored with Rep. Joe D'Orsie that would give school districts the opportunity to offer the seal on the diplomas of students who complete all necessary requirements to prove proficiency in multiple languages.
The ability to speak more than one language is a superpower in the modern world, and this will ensure that our students who do the hard work of learning a second language can receive the clear recognition they deserve.
The House also passed my resolution, HR 501, which recognizes National Travel and Tourism Week. Tourism fuels the economy of every corner of our state, and I am honored to see this recognition passed by the House.
In addition to these bills, my House colleagues and I passed several that will help our neighbors and improve communities:
We protected kids by requiring mandated reporters to report suspected child sexual abuse materials or AI child sexual abuse materials (HB 2474) and improved prosecution of internet crimes against children (HB 1098). We also cut costs for tenants by capping rental application fees (HB 558).
You can learn about these bills, the others we voted on this week, and watch our work on the floor and in committee live on the House website.

Welcoming our Next Generation of Leaders to Harrisburg
My Youth Council serves as a platform for young voices from our local high schools to contribute to policy discussions, community initiatives, and advocacy efforts. It was an honor to welcome them to Harrisburg, where they had the opportunity to attend session on the House floor, meet with Speaker Joanna McClinton, and discuss policies that will impact our community and commonwealth.
The work they have done in our office and our community has been outstanding! If you know a high school student is interested in making positive change in our community, they can apply here.
I also had the honor of welcoming students from Berks for Peace for their Advocacy Day in the Capitol as they pushed for ways to support students prevent youth violence.
Meeting with our Neighbors in Harrisburg
Several of our neighbors were in Harrisburg this week to advocate for causes that are important to them.
Advocates from early childhood learning centers in Reading came to Harrisburg to urge for greater education funding. I am proud to support our schools and ensure they have the funding they need.
I made some time for prayer with the Church Ambassador Network during their advocacy day, led by two of my constituents - Mike and Pamela Kaucher.
I joined Rep. Jacklyn Rusnock in welcoming students from the seventh grade World Civilization class at Muhlenberg Middle School to the floor of the House, and they were joined by their assistant principal and a former constituent of mine, Joe Scoboria.
I also joined Rep. Mary Jo Daley, chair of the House Tourism Committee, to meet with Bring the Change CEO Alex Civil to discuss FIFA World Cup activities in Philadelphia and Reading, and how we can work with Haitian-American populations to vitalize our state's tourism during the World Cup.
I was also able to meet with advocates from students from Reading School District's Latino Connection organization to learn about their work to improve lung health among youth by calling for more regulation and accountability for vape stores.
Honoring the Life of the First Black House Speaker
I joined my colleagues in the Legislative Black Caucus this week to honor the memory of K. Leroy Irvis, the first Black person to serve as Speaker of the House in Pennsylvania and any legislature across the nation, as the caucus kicked off their days of action.
