Ciresi distributes donated carbon monoxide detectors to Limerick Fire Department

LIMERICK, Oct. 19 – State Rep. Joe Ciresi, D-Montgomery, presented donated carbon monoxide monitors to Limerick Fire Department on the evening of Monday, Oct. 19.

The Limerick Fire Department is located at 390 W. Ridge Pike, Limerick, PA 19468.

After carbon monoxide detectors went off at Ciresi’s home on the evening of Sept. 26, Limerick fire and police department officials responded to the call and discovered a gas leak inside his home.

In response to the incident, Ciresi launched a collection point at his district office in Royersford to stockpile donated carbon monoxide detectors, which were donated Monday night. Limerick and other local fire companies will then distribute the detectors to homes in need.

“I’m generally neurotic about fire safety and prevention, so I have a monitoring system with carbon monoxide detectors,” Ciresi said. “It was an aspect I hadn’t really thought about too much until they went off. I was told by our local fire officials we were very lucky to have the system in place.”

In a recent sit-down interview with Ciresi, Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego emphasized that there is no way for humans to detect dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. It cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, Trego said. Therefore, he said, it’s crucial for homes to have and regularly maintain carbon monoxide detectors as well as smoke detectors.

“Just because there’s no flame or smoke doesn’t mean there isn’t something wrong,” Trego said.
