Legislative Update, Outreach events announced; Fish and Boat Commission recruiting new officers

Outreach events scheduled for February and March

I am excited to invite you to two important events happening in our community. These events are designed to offer valuable information and resources, all while bringing us together for a fun and educational experience.

 

Both events will take place at the Bristol Township Senior Center, located at 2501 Bath Road, Bristol Township.

Fraud Bingo Event

Thursday, March 6, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Join me, the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection, and local police for an informative and fun Fraud Bingo event.

 

This event offers a unique, interactive way to learn how to protect yourself from scams. It’s both educational and engaging, and I know you’ll leave with helpful tips to safeguard yourself against fraud.

 

Love Your Heart Fair

Friday, Feb. 28, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Take part in the Love Your Heart Fair, where you’ll find exhibitors dedicated to helping you manage your heart health. Enjoy free health screenings, light refreshments, and resources to help keep your heart healthy for years to come.

 

 

Help picking a Medicare Advantage plan

Medicare Advantage’s open enrollment period runs through March 31, and eligible Pennsylvanians can take advantage of the Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight (formerly APPRISE).

 

MEDI is a free program run by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging that helps older Pennsylvanians choose a plan based on their income and medical needs.

 

MEDI counselors from Bucks County Area Agency on Aging will be in my Levittown office every Tuesday through the end of open enrollment. Please call (267) 880-5700 Prompt #5 to schedule an appointment.

 

 

Senior Games scheduled

The Bucks County Area Agency on Aging is reminding everyone to save the date for this year's Bucks County Senior Games.

 

This year's games will be held June 5-12. Registration will open on March 15 and close on May 15, with the kickoff event happening on May 28. More info will be coming soon.

PFBC to Recruit New Class of Waterways Conservation Officer Trainees

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is recruiting its 27th class of Waterways Conservation Officer Trainees. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 3 by the State Civil Service Commission (SCSC). Trainees will undergo a comprehensive training program at the PFBC's H.R. Stackhouse School of Fishery Conservation and Watercraft Safety in Bellefonte, Centre County, with graduation scheduled for summer 2026.

Applicants must meet the following basic criteria:
     • Pennsylvania residency
     • Possess a valid driver's license
     • Be at least 21 years of age
     • High School Graduate or GED
     • Pass a criminal history background check

 

Upon applying for this position, applicants will be required to take the SCSC exam no later than March 5.

Opportunity for college students

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Program is open to seniors graduating high school and legal residents of Pennsylvania, with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, who plan to attend any four-year college in Pennsylvania and who demonstrate leadership and community service.

 

The scholarship program is privately funded by individual and corporate donations.

 

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 15.
