Deasy and Kulik secure $100,000 for Sto-Rox High School field

(Sep 19, 2018)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 19 – After advocating for upgrades to be made to the activities field at Sto-Rox High School, state Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, is pleased to announce the Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded a $100,000 grant for the project. Deasy said the funds will be used to construct a synthetic turf, which will replace the natural grass football field. The field was last sodded, rolled and leveled over 40 years ago in 1976. “Raising awareness and funding for this project started last year with alumni, friends and businesses coming together to pitch in,” Deasy said. “The current field is outdated and lacks a proper irrigation system. Our students deserve a first-class, modern and safe field. All of our hard work is finally coming to fruition.” Additionally, Deasy said the grant would help the school expand its sports teams and become a more welcoming place where the community would have access to it. The total projected cost to refurbish the field is $610,364. The McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation, or CDC Rocks, applied for the grant and a fundraising committee has helped lead the charge through its “It Starts with the Field,” slogan to help with donations. Earlier this year, the NFL Grassroots Foundation awarded a $250,000 grant for the new field. Deasy: Over $344,000 awarded to 27th District

(Sep 18, 2018)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 18 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced the Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded $194,242 to McKees Rocks, in addition to $100,000 given to the borough to rehabilitate four pedestrian stairways and $50,000 for the Construction Workforce Development Program. Deasy said the $194,242 will help redirect stormwater runoff from the combined sewer system along Gardner and Catherine streets. The projected total project cost is $319,376. “The project includes changing the flow of five catch basins to an underground infiltration tank that is proposed to be located on borough property at the Rangers Field Park,” Deasy said. “Anytime we make upgrades to our sewer systems, it improves safety to our residents and environment.” Additionally, the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County through the Allegheny County GEDTF Program, will help to develop a mobile construction video game for the Construction Workforce Development Program. “The proposed game aims to increase diversity, promote awareness of construction careers and science, technology, engineering and math, connect students with apprenticeship programs, help them to understand the roles of commercial builders and how to start a career as a commercial builder,” Deasy said. “Employment in the trade industry provides a good income and are skills that will be in high demand in the future.” The Construction Advancement Program of Read more
