Freeman announces $142,000 grant to Hellertown

HARRISBURG, April 22 – State Rep. Robert Freeman today announced a $142,000 Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant award to Hellertown for improvements to Authority Park, where the Hellertown Pool is located across from Dimmick Park.

“As our communities continue to grow, it’s important that we remain dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of greenspaces and the protection of our natural resources,” said Freeman, D-Northampton. “Funding opportunities like this enable our local communities to preserve historic structures, create and maintain greenspaces, and also ensure that safe and modern facilities are constructed so that all residents are provided a healthy and safe community.”

According to Freeman, the project will involve:

  • Construction of an addition onto the existing concession stand that will include a small storage area for the concessions and two unisex handicap-accessible restrooms.
  • Installation of a metal roof on the concession stand to be consistent with all other roofed facilities in the recreational complex
  • Upgrades for handicap accessibility and parking.

Freeman said the GTRP provides grants for up to $250,000, and supports projects which involve development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation.

Funding for the program is provided by Act 13 of 2012 which established the Marcellus Legacy Fund and allocates funds to the CFA.
