National Recovery Month is personal for me

The disease of addiction is one that is highly personal for me. As September is National Recovery Month, I wanted to share my story and some resources with you.

I lost my brother at an early age to addiction. The heartbreak felt by our entire family and all who knew and loved him has shaped who I am today.

It’s among the reasons I pursued civic service, which ultimately led to my election as your state representative.

My current role allowed me to recently sit down with Secretary Jennifer Smith of the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs so we could talk more about my story and getting rid of the stigma that surrounds addiction.

Recovery and the chance to grow beyond addiction is for everyone.
