Haddock secures $2.1 million in state grants

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Jim Haddock announced today that the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded $2.1 million in state grants to support 18 projects across his legislative district in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
“I enjoy working with local officials to help them access state grant programs. It’s always gratifying when our efforts come to fruition with the distribution of grant funding for projects that might not otherwise be possible,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna.
Statewide Local Share Account grants, which are derived from the taxes paid by Pennsylvania casinos, were approved for the following projects:
- Avoca Borough Police Department, two grants totaling $118,956 to purchase body and police vehicle cameras and a utility terrain vehicle.
- Dalton Borough, two grants totaling $215,910 to purchase a public works plow truck and toward the purchase of two new police vehicles.
- Dupont Borough, $28,987 to purchase and install a new fire alarm system in the borough building.
- Duryea Borough, two grants totaling $341,073 to replace the roof and downspouts of the 52-year-old municipal building and to upgrade two police vehicles.
- Hughestown Borough, $77,393 to purchase a police vehicle.
- Jenkins Township, $150,000 toward the purchase of two public works vehicles.
- Laflin Borough, $127,994 to purchase a dump truck with snowplow.
- Moosic Borough, $62,005 to complete network and technology upgrades.
- Old Forge Borough, $100,000 to install artificial turf for the baseball/softball field at Miles Street Park.
- Pittston City, two grants totaling $300,000 to complete HVAC renovations at the Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston facility and toward the construction of a mixed-use parking garage at the corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Market Street.
- Pittston Township, $31,958 to make renovations to the administration building.
- Pittstown Township Sewer Authority, $100,000 to fix a sagging sewer main.
Haddock said $250,000 also was approved through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for the Newton Recreation Center.
The Dupont Borough Collins Creek Restoration Project will receive a $232,192 grant through the Watershed Restoration Protection Program.
Haddock thanked the CFA board and state Sen. Marty Flynn for supporting the grants.
All of today’s grants are distributed by the CFA board, an independent state agency that was created to administer Pennsylvania’s economic development programs.
