HARRISBURG, Aug. 17 – State Rep. Jim Haddock announced that $3.38 million is headed to communities he represents from the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.
Lackawanna County is the recipient of $2 million for widening and signage improvements on Montage Mountain Road.
Moosic Borough receives $813,332 for sidewalk upgrades, drainage and pedestrian lighting along Main Street; and Dupont receives $569,632 to mill and repave several roads in the borough.
“This investment is good news for the safety of residents and motorists along these roads,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna. “Montage Mountain Road will be widened and overhead lane-use signage will be added to help manage congestion along the corridor, and Moosic and Dupont will see safety and infrastructure improvements to provide pedestrian-related improvements and improve deteriorated roads, respectively.
“I’d like to thank Gov. Josh Shapiro, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll and state Sen. Marty Flynn for their support of these projects,” Haddock said.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund through the state Department of Transportation provides grants to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities to improve transportation assets and enhance communities. The projects support the safety and accessibility of Pennsylvania’s infrastructure.
“My office is in regular contact with local officials and organizations as grant programs open for applications. I encourage anyone who might need assistance to contact us,” Haddock said.
Applications for the next round of MTF grants will open Sept. 14 and will be due by Oct. 30. Grant recipients are expected to be announced next year. More information about the program and funded projects is available at the PennDOT website.
