Dear neighbor,

As we move through August, I wanted to share a few important updates and reminders with you. This Thursday, Aug. 6 at 10 AM, my office is hosting a Staying Safe Online & Off program in partnership with the N.I.T.E Center and the Aston Township Police Department. Don’t let scammers win! Learn how to protect yourself. Scammers are getting smarter – but so can you! It’s a great opportunity to learn practical tips to help protect yourself in the digital age. Give my office a call to register for this event at 610-534-6880.

National Night Out celebrations are happening tonight in Aston Township, Brookhaven, and Ridley Township, and I hope you’ll have the opportunity to stop by and connect with your neighbors and local first responders. We also have several events planned throughout the month, and I hope you’re able to join us!

In this edition, you’ll also find important information about LIHEAP supplemental payments, SEPTA’s new bus network, and a helpful guide to resources for Pennsylvania’s small businesses. As always, my office is here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Statewide tour on preventive care for women

Many women may not realize that most health insurance plans cover a wide range of preventive services at no out-of-pocket cost. To help raise awareness, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration has launched a statewide Women’s Preventive Health Benefits Tour to connect women with information about preventive care available through their health insurance plans.

The tour runs through September with stops across Pennsylvania, giving women the opportunity to learn about covered preventive services, ask questions, and share their experiences navigating the health care system. The stop closest to our area will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 10 AM at the Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine St., Philadelphia. For more information or to register, click here.

LIHEAP Issues One-Time $100 Supplemental Payments

Households that received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child under the age of 6 will see a $100 supplemental payment from LIHEAP distributed directly to their utility provider. Approximately 193,000 households will be automatically issued a supplemental payment to the same utility vendor that received their cash grant during the normal LIHEAP season. Households will receive a notice informing them that they are eligible

Details on the opening of the 2026-27 LIHEAP season will be available later this year. The supplemental payment will not affect a household's eligibility for the upcoming 2026-27 LIHEAP season. More information can be found on the COMPASS website, or you can contact the Customer Service Centers at 215-560-7226.

Check out PA’s guide for small businesses

Whether you’re thinking about starting a business, expanding an existing one, or relocating your company to Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth’s Business One-Stop Shop is a great place to start. The website offers a wide range of free resources to help entrepreneurs and small business owners navigate every stage of business ownership, including developing a business plan, registering a business, exploring funding opportunities, understanding taxes and licensing requirements, and connecting with state contracting opportunities.

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and I encourage anyone looking to start or grow a business to take advantage of these valuable resources.
