It seems like summer just started, and here we are already heading into September! It’s one of my favorite times of the year, where the days are still warm, but the evenings start to feel a little crisper and fall is right around the corner.

Fall is also a busy time for my office, with many of our events coming up and so many wonderful community events happening throughout the next couple of months with our municipalities, school districts, and local organizations. As we head into the new month, I want to share a few important reminders and upcoming events with you.

First, a quick reminder about our office hours for the Labor Day holiday. This Friday, September 4, my office will close at NOON and will remain closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, September 8 at 9 AM.

Beginning on September 4, we enter a 60-day restricted period before the November 3 General Election. During this time, Pennsylvania House rules limit how I can communicate with constituents who have not opted in to receive my email updates.

If you haven't opted in to receive my emails, I won't be able to send you updates during this period, including information about legislation, district news, upcoming events, and state programs and resources that may help you or your family.

If you'd like to keep receiving these updates, please take a moment to OPT IN to receive emails.

Pennsylvania is currently experiencing a measles outbreak, with 497 confirmed cases across 31 counties, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health complications. The good news is that it is preventable. The MMR vaccine remains the best protection against measles and helps prevent the spread of the disease.

With cases continuing to rise, it’s important to stay informed and make sure you and your family are protected. You can learn more about measles and the latest case information from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

As students head back to school, I also want to remind families that Pennsylvania’s school vaccination requirements have not changed.  Pennsylvania continues to set its own immunization requirements for students attending school.

Families can review Pennsylvania’s school vaccinations requirements and recommended immunization information through the PA Department of Health. If you have questions about which vaccinations your child may need, you can also speak with your child’s healthcare provider.

We had a great turnout, with 33 total donations, including 10 Power Red donations! Power Red donations collect two units of red blood cells in one visit, helping provide even more lifesaving support to patients in need.

With the American Red Cross facing a national blood crisis, every donation can make a lifesaving difference. A big thank you to everyone who gave back, as well as the American Red Cross staff and volunteers who helped make this day a success!

Last night, I held my free Retirement Planning Seminar, where attendees heard from a representative from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities about important steps to prepare for retirement, including how much you may need to save and ways to help make your money last.

This morning I visited Mirmont Treatment Center in Media after being invited by a local resident. Mirmont Treatment Center is dedicated to providing compassionate, quality inpatient and outpatient treatment to those affected by alcohol and drug dependency and other mental health issues. Their detox center and addiction treatment programs have supported recovery efforts in Delaware County for more than 40 years and they are part of the Main Line Health system.

I was delighted to meet a former Crozer employee who is now serving similar patients at this location and I learned that their Medicaid admission rate has nearly doubled since 2024, making their programs more accessible to everyone.

A public hearing will be held Wednesday, September 2 at 7 PM at Strath Haven Middle School, 200 S. Providence Rd., in Wallingford, regarding a proposal to create a joint municipal authority to administer emergency medical services.

The proposed authority would include the boroughs of Media, Rose Valley, Rutledge and Swarthmore, along with Nether Providence and Upper Providence townships.

The hearing will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the proposed authority and what it would mean for EMS services in these communities. Mark your calendar to attend if you live in one of these municipalities and have questions to ask about the plan.

As we approach the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, here are some key dates to remember:

• Monday, October 19 – Last day to register to vote.
• Tuesday, October 27– Last day to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot.
• Tuesday, November 3 – Election Day: Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Voters must be in line by 8 p.m. to cast their ballot. Mail-in and absentee ballots must be received by your county election office by 8 p.m.
