I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day holiday and was able to enjoy some time with family and friends. September is already shaping up to be a busy month, with plenty happening right here in our community.

In this issue, you’ll find information about the special House session taking place in Philadelphia this week, the 25th anniversary of September 11 and opportunities to honor and remember those we lost, an update on a proposed EMS authority for part of Delco, and details about all of my upcoming events and programs.

A historic House Session at Congress Hall

This Wednesday, September 9, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will convene for a historic session at Congress Hall in Philadelphia to commemorate the 250th anniversaries of the Declaration of Independence and the Pennsylvania Constitution.

As part of America250PA’s civic education initiative, more than 80 student delegates from across the Commonwealth will also participate in The Next 250, a program designed to deepen their understanding of our democracy and Pennsylvania’s role in shaping it. I am honored to take part in this historic session and to see the next generation of Pennsylvanians engaged in our democracy.

Calling all future leaders

The PA House Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for Spring 2027. Work in the Capitol, draft legislation, network with public officials, and earn a paycheck, with possible college credit. The program is open to Pennsylvania college juniors, seniors, graduate students, and law students with a 3.0+ GPA.

Applications are due by October 1, 2026.

Update on a proposed EMS Authority

Last week, a public hearing was held at Strath Haven Middle School on a proposal to create a joint municipal authority to oversee emergency medical services for Rose Valley, Rutledge, and Swarthmore Boroughs, as well as Nether Providence and Upper Providence townships. These municipalities have been meeting since before Crozer-Chester Medical Center closed to develop a plan to fill the gap left after more than half of Delaware County lost their Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance services. While we were able to secure short-term emergency funding from the state to keep ambulances running last year following the closure, providing EMS coverage is a responsibility of local government, not state or county government. As a result, different municipalities are following different plans to serve their residents.

Following last week’s public hearing, each municipality considered whether to join the new EMS authority. Nether Providence and Upper Providence Township, along with the boroughs of Rose Valley, Rutledge, and Swarthmore, approved moving forward. Media Borough decided not to join due to financial considerations.

There are still several steps ahead before the new authority begins operating. Board members will need to determine the fee structure and other details necessary to establish the authority. I will continue to follow this process and share updates as more information becomes available.

Back to school with CHIP

Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health coverage for uninsured children and teens who are not eligible for or enrolled in Medicaid (MA). CHIP can help families make sure children have access to important health care services throughout the school year.

The 2026-27 FAFSA opens October 1

The 2026–27 FAFSA opens October 1, 2026, and the federal deadline is June 30, 2027, so set those reminders!

Submit early, make sure your FSA ID is ready, and remember: FAFSA unlocks federal grants, loans, and work-study. PLUS, in Pennsylvania, your FAFSA also helps you access state aid like:

• PA State Grant Program (need-based aid for PA students)

• PA Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver (for eligible foster youth)

• PA Ready to Succeed Scholarship (RTSS)

• PA TIP Program for career + technical education students

Seniors: Are you eligible for prescription assistance?

PACE and PACENET are the state’s prescription assistance programs that help cover the cost of medications for eligible residents age 65 and older. There are income limits, which are listed below.

There’s still time to file your property tax/rent rebate

Applications for rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2025 are still being accepted. This program is available to Pennsylvanians age 65 or older, widows and widowers age 50 or older, and individuals with disabilities age 18 or older. The deadline to apply has been extended until December 31. For more information, to see if you qualify, and to apply, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue website, or give my office a call for assistance filing your rebate.
