Dear neighbor,

Last week was a busy one for me and my team here in the district. I joined Ridley Township commissioners to announce funding for pedestrian safety improvements and traffic signal modernization; hosted a Clean Slate Expungement Clinic in Brookhaven; joined the Aston Township Police Relief Association for its annual 24-hour walk focused on law enforcement mental health; hosted our Fall Shredding & Drug Takeback Event with Sen. Kane; and enjoyed spending time with neighbors at Brookhaven Family Day.

I always enjoy being out in the district, whether I’m hosting events, connecting residents with helpful resources or simply having the opportunity to talk with members of our community.

This week, I’m back in Harrisburg for our first week of legislative session days this Fall. In this edition, you’ll find updates on what’s happening at the Capitol, along with details about my upcoming events and programs.

Contraceptive access for all

Yesterday in Harrisburg, I joined my colleagues and Planned Parenthood at a press conference to highlight the urgent need to protect access to contraception in Pennsylvania.

I have been working on this issue since 2017, when we first began seeing threats to reproductive health care at the federal level. My Contraceptives Access for All Act, H.B. 1140, would protect access to contraceptives in state law and ensure Pennsylvanians can get the care their doctors prescribe without unnecessary barriers.

The House has now passed this legislation with bipartisan support two sessions in a row, but the Senate has yet to act.

With continued uncertainty at the federal level, it is more important than ever that Pennsylvania protects access to reproductive health care. It is time for the Senate to act and ensure these protections are in place for Pennsylvanians.

In the District

Investing in safer roads in Ridley Township

Last Wednesday, I was honored to join Ridley Township Commissioners to present a check for $399,918 in state Green Light-Go funding for traffic signal modernization at the intersection of Fairview Rd. and Jefferson Ave. I was proud to work alongside Sen. Kearney and Rep. Delloso to help secure this funding, which will improve safety and traffic flow at this busy intersection.

We were also joined by the Hocker family, who tragically lost their son, Damien, in 2024 while he was walking along MacDade Blvd. Since then, the Hocker family has been a strong voice for pedestrian safety in our community and has worked tirelessly to advocate for improvements that will help keep others safe.

I’m proud to bring state funding back to Ridley Township for improvements that make our roads safer for everyone.

Clean Slate Expungement Clinic in Brookhaven

Last Thursday, I hosted a Clean Slate Expungement Clinic in Brookhaven, where attendees had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with attorneys from Legal Aid of Southeastern PA and receive free guidance on the process of clearing their records.

Thank you to Legal Aid of Southeastern PA for partnering with my office to bring this important service to our community. Clearing an eligible record can help remove barriers to employment, housing and other opportunities, giving people a chance to move forward.

Aston Township Police Relief Association Walk

This past weekend, I was honored to join the Aston Township Police Relief Association for their annual 24-hour walkathon at Sun Valley High School to raise awareness about suicide and mental health among law enforcement.

Law enforcement officers from across Delaware County, along with their families and members of the community, came together to show their support and recognize the importance of the well-being of those who serve our communities.

Thank you to the Aston Township Police Relief Association for the invite to join you again this year and for bringing people together and raising awareness about this important cause.

Shredding & Drug Takeback Event

Despite the nor’easter that swept through our area this past Saturday, Sen. John Kane and I put on our rain gear and welcomed residents to our Fall Shredding and Drug Takeback Event in Aston Township. Even with periods of heavy rain, we had a great turnout!

The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office also joined us and collected 164 pounds of unneeded and expired medications for safe disposal.

Thank you to everyone who came out to take advantage of these services. I also want to thank the Aston Township Police Department for being on hand to ensure everyone’s safety throughout the event.

Brookhaven Family Day

I had a great time at Brookhaven’s Family Day on Saturday! This is always such a fun event and a great opportunity to see families and neighbors come together and enjoy everything our community has to offer.

Virtual update on healthcare at the Former Crozer campus

Chariot Allaire will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday, October 21at 7 PM to share the latest information on their plans for healthcare at the former Crozer campus.

Community members are invited to join the conversation and hear updates on the future of the campus and efforts to restore accessible healthcare in Delaware County.

Election Day reminders

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. Whether you are voting in person or via mail-in ballot, make sure you have a plan in place!

Find your polling place

Not sure where to vote? You can find your polling place and other important voter information through Delaware County Elections.

Returning your mail-in ballot

Voters utilizing mail-in ballots have options on how to return them: by mail, at a drop box, or at an election office. Under Pennsylvania law, voters must return their own ballots. The only exceptions to this are for voters with a disability who have designated someone in writing using the Designated Agent Form to deliver their ballot.

Delaware County has 28 secure, ADA-compliant ballot drop box locations available throughout the county. The drop box at the Government Center in Media will open with the first mailing of ballots, which are expected to begin going out on or before the first week of October. Court action has also blocked efforts to interfere with the delivery of the ballots.

Did you get a message from PA DHS?

PA Department of Human Services sends automated text messages and recorded phone calls with important information about your benefits. Knowing which numbers are legitimate can help you avoid scams and make sure you don’t miss important updates.

Text messages from PA DHS will come from 69217, and automated recorded phone calls will come from 1-877-839-4782.

Remember, PA DHS will never ask you to provide personal information about you or your benefits over text message. If you receive a suspicious call, email or text, you can report it to DHS at 1-844-DHS-TIPS (1-877-347-8477).

PA Veterans: Get help finding lost military records

Pennsylvania veterans struggling to locate lost DD-214 forms or other military documents can get free assistance from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). These records are essential for accessing benefits, employment, and retirement credits.

Veterans can call 1-800-547-2838 or email RA-REQ@pa.gov. DMVA also assists with DD-215 corrections. As always, if you need help with DMVA or any other state agency or issue, you can contact my district office, and we’ll be happy to help.
