Krueger issues statement on Brookhaven fuel spill charges

FOLSOM, July 27 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger released the following statement regarding the announcement of criminal charges related to the fuel spill that occurred in Brookhaven in June.

“I’m grateful to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office for investigating this incident and showing that actions that harm our environment and our community will not be tolerated. Since the spill happened in June, I’ve been closely monitoring the response and cleanup, and I’m pleased that there will be accountability through the justice system.

This gasoline spill killed fish and other wildlife, contaminated a local waterway, disrupted an elementary school’s last few days of the school year, and affected many community members. It also created an enormous amount of work, as crews have worked to clean up and remediate the damage. My thanks go out to Delaware County Emergency Services, the Department of Environmental Protection, Brookhaven Fire Company, and all of those involved in the response.”
