Mazzocco legislation benefiting administrators at Pittsburgh Public Schools advances through Pennsylvania House
Rep. Jen Mazzocco June 30, 2026 | 3:01 PM
HARRISBURG, JUNE 30 – Today, legislation sponsored by state Rep. Jen Mazzocco (H.B. 2455) to give school administrators at Pittsburgh Public Schools the right to collectively bargain advanced through the House of Representatives.
The bill would add Pittsburgh Public Schools to the list of school districts whose administrators are authorized to organize under the Administrative Code of 1929. The bill would allow administrators such as principals and vice principals to collectively fight for improved workplace conditions.
"The jobs of administrators in Pittsburgh Public Schools have become increasingly complex," Mazzocco said. "They have so much on their plates: school safety, building maintenance, staffing, budgets, student discipline and mental health support. This bill tells these administrators that we have their back. It gives them a stronger voice to advocate for themselves, their schools, and the students they serve. I urge the Senate to act, so Pittsburgh's school leaders have the support they need to strengthen our classrooms and communities."
The Pittsburgh Public School system is the second-largest school system in Pennsylvania, with 56 schools and over 20,000 students. The largest system in the state, the School District of Philadelphia, has allowed principals and vice principals to organize since 1996.
The bill will now head to the Senate for consideration.
