McClinton applauds ARPA funding to improve Darby’s sewer infrastructure

State House Speaker Joanna McClinton is applauding a nearly $500,000 grant being awarded to Darby to improve sewer infrastructure in the borough.

Harrisburg, Dec. 19 –State House Speaker Joanna McClinton is applauding a nearly $500,000 grant being awarded to Darby to improve sewer infrastructure in the borough.

“Sometimes it is easy to overlook the importance of maintaining and improving our local infrastructure, and we forget the significant role the sewer system plays in safeguarding the health of our community,” McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, said. “This funding will help Darby improve the sewer infrastructure so that it continues to work correctly and keep neighbors’ water safe.”

McClinton said the funding will be used to replace a defective sanitary sewer main and multiple pipes in three locations. Maintaining and repairing sewer lines are important parts of preserving community health by ensuring proper sanitation, disease prevention, and environmental stewardship.

The Darby project was selected for funding by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, and the grant draws from American Rescue Plan Act funding. It is being distributed through the Small Water and Sewer Program, which provides for small water, sewer, and storm system water infrastructure projects.

Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $105.6 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the PA Small Water and Sewer Program.

The American Rescue Plan Act was an economic stimulus bill passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden in 2021.
