McNeill celebrates passage of resolution recognizing child safety advocates

HARRISBURG, June 10 – On Monday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives adopted a resolution that honors Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocates volunteers for their advocacy and efforts in promoting the safety and wellbeing of Pennsylvania’s children, according to the resolution’s prime sponsor, state Rep. Jeanne McNeill.

“CASA is a network of 21 local programs in 32 counties in Pennsylvania,” said McNeill. “These programs, comprised of more than 1,000 volunteers, advocate for more than 2,000 children who have been subjected to abuse as well as neglect. These volunteers work to ensure that children’s needs are met while in the dependency system, as well as assisting in obtaining safe and permanent housing.”

McNeill, who is chair of the House Children and Youth Committee, said it was a resolution that she was proud to introduce and was happy to see adopted by an overwhelming margin. McNeill also credited Judge Doug Reichley, president judge of the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas, for providing vital information about the key role Court Appointed Special Advocates perform.

“I am thankful to my colleagues that voted in support of these children to give them the better future they deserve,” said McNeill. “While this is a small thank you to these volunteers, it is an important one as we acknowledge the significance of their work.”
