Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives advanced Speaker Joanna McClinton’s Voting Rights Protection Act—a landmark piece of legislation that seeks to improve the administration of our elections and expand ballot access across the commonwealth.
This new act would pave the way for important changes. It would help our county election officials by cutting through existing complexities in our laws, allowing them to prepare mail-in ballots well in advance of Election Day. The legislation would also respond to the shifting needs of voters by making early voting more accessible, increasing opportunities to use secure ballot drop boxes, and even offering a chance to correct small mistakes on mail-in ballots.
Pennsylvania is the birthplace of American democracy, and nothing is more crucial to our nation’s promise than the right to vote in free, fair, and secure elections.

H.B. 1403 Clears the PA House Education Committee
I am pleased to share some promising news regarding our commonwealth’s ongoing efforts to address the critical teacher shortage in Pennsylvania. House Bill 1403, a measure I was the co-prime sponsor of alongside my esteemed colleague, State Rep. Lisa Borowski, has been unanimously cleared out of the Pennsylvania House Education Committee.
The teacher shortage in Pennsylvania has reached critical levels, with approximately 9,500 educators leaving during the 2022-2023 school year and an anticipated 8,300 more in 2023-2024. This historic exodus underscores the urgent need for reforms that not only attract new talent but also encourage experienced educators to rejoin the classroom.
To combat these challenges, our bill would reduce employment barriers, offer greater flexibility for school districts, and widen the pool of eligible educators. Our educators are the foundation of our future, and we must continue exploring every avenue available to support them.
