Strengthening Lien Rights for Erie’s Small Businesses
Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed H.B. 1319, legislation I proudly co-sponsored with Representative Pat Harkins to modernize our Mechanics’ Lien Law for the benefit of Erie’s small businesses.
Under H.B. 1319, rented machinery—from backhoes and cranes to scaffolding and more—would officially be recognized as “materials.” This change means every local equipment renter would have clear lien rights when payments go missing, eliminating costly legal limbo and uncertainty.
Pennsylvania Lifts Sunday Hunting Prohibition
History was made yesterday at the Blue Ridge Sportsman Club in Dauphin County when Governor Josh Shapiro signed House Bill 1431, officially ending Pennsylvania’s Sunday hunting ban. I was honored to attend the ceremony in my role as Vice Chair of the Pennsylvania House Game & Fisheries Committee.
This bipartisan victory delivers new freedom to our commonwealth’s 850,000 licensed hunters, allowing them to pursue their passion one more day each week. At the same time, expanded hunting opportunities will strengthen wildlife conservation by supporting healthy habitats and sustainable game populations.
Unveiling the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Founder’s Room
There was a full house at the Barber National Institute for the unveiling of the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Founder’s Room. This beautifully appointed space, filled with historic photographs and personal stories, brings Doctor Barber’s visionary dream vividly to life and highlights the humble beginnings of the Barber Center.
The new Founder’s Room not only celebrates our shared history but also inspires confidence in the future of the Barber National Institute. It reminds us of the countless memories made here and promises many more as the Institute continues delivering exceptional support and services to individuals and families across our region.
Sounds of Summer Kickoff
The Sounds of Summer concert series officially kicked off this week at the Erie VA Hospital. My district office team was on hand to share information about Pennsylvania’s programs and services—from veterans’ benefits to workforce training and small-business support.
Events like this remind me how special our Erie community is. Whether you’re stopping by for live music, catching up with neighbors, or learning about state resources, summer in Erie brings people together in the best way.
814 Concert Series at Baker Field
Last week, my district team and I had a fantastic evening at the 814 Concert Series at Baker Field, where we connected with so many of you under the summer sky.
It was a privilege catching up with neighbors, making new friends, and gathering your feedback to guide my work in Harrisburg.
