Dr. Natalyn Gibbs Leads Erie into a New Era of Education
Last week, we were honored to join parents, teachers, and community leaders in welcoming Dr. Natalyn Gibbs as Erie’s new School District Superintendent. Seeing our neighbors come together to celebrate this fresh start for students and families was truly uplifting.
Over the past few weeks, state Rep. Pat Harkins and I have had the privilege of working side by side with Dr. Gibbs as she settles into her new role. From our very first meeting, she has demonstrated genuine curiosity about what makes Erie’s schools thrive. Her willingness to listen has already sparked productive conversations about addressing both our greatest strengths and our toughest challenges.
Dr. Gibbs arrives with decades of proven leadership in public education, an unwavering commitment to equity, and a bold vision for excellence in every classroom. We’re confident that her energetic, solutions-driven approach will invigorate our schools and strengthen our entire community.

Supporting Our PA Game Wardens
Last week’s International Game Warden Association convention in Erie was a resounding success! As Vice Chair of the Pennsylvania House Game and Fisheries Committee, I’m deeply aware of the vital role these men and women play every day—patrolling our waterways and woodlands, enforcing wildlife laws, and ensuring that our hunting and fishing traditions are preserved for future generations.
Their work not only safeguards public safety but also protects the natural resources that define our Commonwealth.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Harborcreek Township’s Food Truck Friday at Shades Beach. STO LAT Kitchen truly hit the spot, and events like these remind us how much we value gathering as a community and supporting our local eateries.
We also had the pleasure of stopping by Harborcreek Community Engagement’s basket raffle this weekend. Their tireless work to build community connections and promote everything Harborcreek has to offer is inspiring.

Celebrating Diversity at the AmeriMasala Festival
The AmeriMasala Festival in downtown Erie was a vibrant celebration of the diverse culture that makes our community —and our country—so special. At the festival, we enjoyed traditional performances honoring various heritages, savored authentic dishes representing cuisines from around the globe, explored art exhibits showcasing both local and international artists, and took part in interactive workshops designed for attendees of all ages.
Events like AmeriMasala strengthen our community by fostering understanding, unity, and pride in our shared identity. I want to thank the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who joined the celebration—your enthusiasm is what keeps Erie vibrant and inclusive.

Sounds of Summer Concert Series at Ostrow Apartments
We had the distinct privilege of attending the Sounds of Summer Concert Series at the Ostrow Apartments in Southeast Erie. The Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania filled the air with lively tunes, bringing together residents of all ages for an evening of music and community spirit.
My team was on hand with an informational table, where we shared brochures on state programs and services—from resources for seniors and veterans to support for small businesses and families. It was wonderful to meet so many of you, hear your questions, and discuss how we can work together to strengthen our district.

Ensuring Healthier Families with Pennsylvania’s WIC Program
Since 1974, Pennsylvania’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program has been a lifeline for families across our Commonwealth. WIC provides eligible women and children with comprehensive nutrition services, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and essential social services. By ensuring access to healthy foods and expert guidance, WIC helps our youngest Pennsylvanians get the strong start they deserve.
If you or someone you know could benefit from WIC’s services, it’s easy to learn more and apply:
- Call 1-800-WIC-WINS to speak with a program representative.
- Click here to find your local WIC clinic and begin the enrollment process online.
We remain committed to supporting programs that bolster family health and well-being in Erie County and beyond. Please share this information with neighbors, friends, or family members who may qualify.
