Strengthening Erie’s Community of Caring
This week in Erie, two inspiring stories remind us of the power of compassion and community. First, our local Community of Caring organization continues to open its doors every night, offering more than just a roof—it’s giving our unhoused neighbors the tools, support, and stability they need to rebuild their lives. Second, on what would have marked her 99th birthday, we paid tribute to Mother Mary Beth Kennedy’s enduring legacy by posthumously honoring her decades of compassionate ministry here in Erie and far beyond.
Night after night, people who once faced the streets now find not only a warm bed but a clear path toward independence and hope. None of this would be possible without the tireless work of local nonprofits, dedicated volunteers, and supportive faith communities—and for their generosity, we are profoundly grateful.

Connecting with Springhill Residents on State Issues
I had the privilege of joining state Representative Pat Harkins and the residents at Springhill Senior Living to discuss how state policies shape life in our community.
Your thoughtful questions on education funding, infrastructure improvements, and local services highlighted just how essential citizen involvement is for truly effective representation.
Thank you for the warm welcome and engaging conversation. Hearing directly from you ensures we can carry your priorities straight back to the State Capitol.

Big congratulations to two rising stars from our team!
Gabbi (in red) is heading off this fall to pursue her master’s degree. We are so proud of you as you take this next academic step.
Mikayla, who spent three summers interning in our office, has just accepted a full-time position with the County. This achievement is truly well deserved and well earned.
Please join me in congratulating Gabbi and Mikayla as they embark on these exciting new chapters. Wishing you both all the best and continued success!

Paws in the Park Fun & Pennsylvania Dog Law Resources
What a fantastic day we had during the Paws in the Park event at Rolling Ridge Park in Harborcreek Township! It was wonderful to see so many families, four-legged friends, and dedicated volunteers come together for an afternoon of play and community spirit.
A special shout-out to our friends at the ANNA Shelter—thank you for all you do to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. Conversations with your team remind me how crucial local shelters are to keeping pets safe and families whole.
If you’d like to brush up on Pennsylvania’s dog laws—from licensing requirements to leash regulations—you can find all the details here.

Sunday Hunting Days for the 2025 Season
Hunters, get ready for more Sunday outings in 2025!
The Pennsylvania Game Commission has greenlit new Sunday hunting dates—every Sunday from Sept. 14 through Dec. 7 will now count as part of your hunting season (excluding migratory game birds due to federal rules).
Remember, firearms deer season still closes Saturday, Dec. 13, and Sundays must fall within a season’s open window. Approved Sundays for foxes, coyotes, and crows remain unchanged.
Happy hunting!
