Lawmakers announce nearly $160,000 to support technical schools
Grants approved for Erie County Technical School, Erie City School District

HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – State lawmakers announced $159,658 in competitive equipment grants have been approved for Erie County Technical School and Erie City School District. The announcement is part of a $4 million statewide investment for schools and technical centers to purchase new equipment for use in training students for in-demand occupations.
“This grant funding will help our region’s tech schools ensure students have state-of-the-art equipment while simultaneously offering individuals the opportunity to strengthen their skill set and prepare to excel in a competitive job market,” state Rep. Pat Harkins said.
The grants announced today include:
- $84,988 for Erie County Technical School.
- $74,670 for Erie City School District.
“When it comes to delivering a high-quality education for students seeking a career in a trade, there is no substitute for hands-on, real-world experience,” state Rep. Bob Merski said. “This grant funding will assist our area’s tech schools in offering the latest training to propel these students into a fulfilling career.”
Pennsylvania has more than 80 career technical centers that offer a combination of classes approved by the Department of Education. Thousands of students earn industry credentials for local jobs in high demand.
“Technical education continues to be a pathway to success by providing students the hands-on training needed to secure the jobs they want after graduation,” state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro said. “I have highlighted the incredible work being done in Erie in technical education by having Erie administrators and teachers testify during Policy Committee hearings attended by lawmakers across the state. It’s gratifying to know our local communities provide students with the tools they need to secure high-demand jobs with family-sustaining wages.”
