Mullins, Welby announce $2.3 million investment for Scranton

SCRANTON, Nov. 30 – State Reps. Kyle Mullins and Thom Welby, both D-Lackawanna, today announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has awarded nearly $2.35 million in grant funding to several park rehabilitation projects in the 112th and 113th legislative districts. “Our residents deserve safe, clean and accessible parks and other outdoor recreational opportunities,” Mullins said. “I am grateful for the state’s recognition of the importance of enhancing our wonderful community assets. I will continue to advocate for these investments in our region as they undoubtedly improve the quality of life in our community.” “Making an investment in our parks means making an investment in our community,” Welby said. “I want to thank the DCNR for recognizing the importance of these projects, which will provide family-friendly environments for current and future generations.” The DCNR grants were made available through the Community Conservation Partnership Program. Two-day hearing discusses how colleges fill in-demand careers

SCRANTON, Oct. 20 – The labor market in northeast Pennsylvania needs workers, and a two-day hearing in Tunkhannock and Scranton focused on how the region prepares students for success. “Students coming out of their high school years need opportunities like those provided here,” said state Rep. Bridget Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna. “My own kids came out of a preparatory school and I know as a mom that it was challenging to navigate finding the right opportunities for them and their peers. I am excited for my colleagues to learn about the different programs offered here like the Level Up Program, the SOAR Program of Study, Dual Enrollment, and continuing education programs.” The hearing was held at 409 on Adams, the student-run restaurant on the Scranton campus of Lackawanna College. Lawmakers heard from Dr. Jill Murray, president of Lackawanna College; Melissa Turlip, director of programming at the Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains; and Colins Furneaux, educational coordinator for Northern Tier Industry and Education Consortium.
