Madden, Probst celebrate $2.4 million in funding for local road and stormwater improvement projects

HARRISBURG, March 16 – Extoling the nearly $2.4 million coming to their legislative districts, state Reps. Maureen Madden and Tarah Probst proudly announced Commonwealth Financing Authority grants today.
The projects touted by Madden, who serves the 115th Legislative District in Monroe County, and Probst, who serves the 189th Legislative District in Monroe and Pike counties, include road and stormwater infrastructure improvements and local park upgrades.
“Homes, businesses and people in our region have suffered through flooding, traffic nightmares and noise pollution because of outdated, old and/or insufficient roadways and stormwater drainage, and this is incredibly welcomed news for our communities,” Madden said. “These are deserving projects and the end product for each will mean a great deal of good for the Poconos.”
Said Probst: “Tackling these types of infrastructure projects has been at the forefront of many peoples’ minds for a long time and for some very obvious reasons. These grants will go a long way to improving traffic and stormwater drainage and set our region up for continued success.”
The six projects from the Probst and Madden districts include:
- $500,000 in Multimodal Transportation Funds to Pocono Mountains Industrial Park Authority for Phase 2 of its expansion of Route 209 from two lanes to five lanes to support the Smithfield Gateway development in Smithfield Township, Monroe County.
- $100,000 in MTF funds for safety improvements to the SR 0611/Learn Road intersection in Pocono Township, Monroe County.
- $250,000 in MTF funds to construct stormwater improvements along Route 447 in Stroud Township, Monroe County.
- $1 million Local Shares Account grant funding to upgrade stormwater improvements at the intersection of Route 447 and Brushy Mountain Road in Stroud Township, Monroe County.
- $367,500 in LSA grant funding for Phase II of the Marshall Falls Park Project in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, including construction of a 12-spot parking lot.
- $176,755 in LSA grant funding to replace a culvert inside Akenac Park in Delaware Township, Pike County.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.
Under Pennsylvania’s 2004 Gaming Act, the CFA developed program guidelines for Local Share Account funds for projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development. The LSA receives gaming money generated by casinos.
