Freeman welcomes $2.3 million grant for ‘The Foundry’

HARRISBURG, May 7 – State Rep. Robert Freeman is pleased to welcome a $2.3 million state grant that was awarded this week to the city of Easton for workforce housing.

The grant will help to complete site work and demolition to support the redevelopment of the 14-acre brownfield known as “The Foundry” into a mixed-used site with 200 rental units and 20,000 square feet of commercial space.

“The redevelopment of the Easton Iron & Metal site along Bushkill Drive in Easton is a public-private partnership that will provide more affordable workforce housing and jobs for local residents. The Foundry also embraces enhanced pedestrian connectivity via the continuation of the Karl Stimer Arts Trail through the site and the improvement of pedestrian facilities along Bushkill Drive,” said Freeman, D-Northampton.

“I would like to thank Gov. Josh Shapiro and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger for recognizing the importance that this redevelopment project will have on the Easton area.”

The Easton grant was part of $10 million awarded to seven projects through the PA Mixed-Use Housing Development Pilot Program to support the creation of more than 1,400 new homes and apartments across Pennsylvania.
