Samuelson, Miller announce $300,000 in new state funding for Hanover Township

HARRISBURG, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Steve Samuelson, D-Northampton, and state Sen. Nick Miller, D-Lehigh/Northampton, announced that a $300,000 Statewide Local Share Account grant for Hanover Township was awarded today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
This grant will go to the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Co. and will be used to purchase self-contained breathing apparatuses and related equipment. The company’s current equipment is aging, so replacing these will improve public safety and enhance the safety of the firefighters.
“I am proud to work with Sen. Miller to be able to secure these needed funds. The township’s amazing fire company staff are volunteers, and they bring dedication and professionalism to their contributions of time and talent for residents and businesses,” Samuelson said. “We’ve come together again, securing state funding to make sure they have the equipment they need to do the job well and with the best interests of the community in mind.”

Samuelson to support the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Co. and firefighters who put their lives on the line for our community,” Miller said. “This investment in new self-contained breathing apparatuses and related equipment will replace aging gear and give our firefighters the tools they need to do their jobs safely. Our first responders deserve nothing less, and I’ll continue fighting to make sure they have the resources to protect our communities.”
This is the third time Samuelson and Miller have secured funds for Hanover Township’s efforts related to public safety. Last year, state funding of $292,581 was presented for the purchase of portable and mobile radios, allowing for the completion of upgrading and enhancing communication efforts as they interact with agencies including the County Emergency Management Department and State Police during emergencies. In May, $97,743 in LSA funding was secured for cutting-edge Jaws of Life technology and equipment.
The grants were approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Local Share Account Programs were created through the Pennsylvania Racehorse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for the distribution of gaming revenue through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the state.
