Probst secures state funding for Pike County’s Winona Falls Road Bridge replacement project

LEHMAN TWP., Aug. 18 – State Rep. Tarah Probst today announced the award of a $3 million Multimodal Transportation Fund state grant to support the replacement of the superstructure of the Winona Falls Road Bridge here in Pike County.

The county-owned bridge has recently been classified as being in very poor condition, reducing its load rating to 15 tons. The grant will fund the immediate replacement of the failing bridge superstructure. The detour crossing used during construction will need repairs as well.

“This $3 million investment is critical to ensuring the safety and reliability of this important piece of local infrastructure,” said Probst, D-Monroe/Pike. “Pike County residents deserve bridges and roads they can count on, and replacing this failing superstructure will help protect motorists while strengthening the transportation network that our communities rely on every day.”

Probst said that securing state funding for local priorities remains one of her top commitments as a state representative.

“I am committed to making sure that state dollars are invested where they can do the most good – in our communities, public institutions and nonprofit partners,” Probst said. “I will continue fighting to bring resources home to Monroe and Pike counties and supporting projects that deliver tangible benefits for the people who live and work here. These investments also help relieve pressure on local budgets and can help keep the burden from falling on local taxpayers.”

The funding is being awarded through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Statewide Competitive Funding Program. The program provides financial assistance for priority transportation investments across Pennsylvania and is designed to ensure that residents have access to a safe and reliable transportation system.

The program supports projects that improve transportation assets, enhance communities and pedestrian safety, and advance transit revitalization. Eligible applicants include municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and port and rail freight entities.

“Investments like this demonstrate the importance of state and local governments working together to address infrastructure needs before they become even more serious,” Probst said. “I’m pleased to see this significant state investment coming to Pike County, and I look forward to seeing this project move forward.”

The grant is part of $54 million in MTF funding announced by Gov. Josh Shapiro for 50 highway, bridge, aviation, port, bicycle and pedestrian projects in 27 Pennsylvania counties. The Shapiro Administration has awarded a total of $197 million to local communities through the MTF since taking office.

Probst represents Pennsylvania’s 189th Legislative District, which includes Delaware Water Gap, Smithfield East Stroudsburg, Stroudsburg and parts of Middle Smithfield and Stroud in Monroe County and Delaware, Lehman and Porter in Pike County.
