Probst announces state grants for Monroe and Pike County organizations

STROUDSBURG, Sept. 10 – State Rep. Tarah Probst today announced $19,000 in Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Cultural and Historical Support Grants for the Monroe County Historical Association and Pike County Historical Society.
“I’m proud to support these important local institutions and the work they do to preserve our region’s history,” Probst said. “These grants will help ensure our historical organizations can continue educating residents, welcoming visitors and sharing the stories that define our communities.”
The Monroe County Historical Association will receive $9,500, supported through a partnership between Probst and state Rep. Maureen Madden. The funding will support general operations and staff salaries at the Stroud Mansion Museum and Library and its new Heritage Center.
The historic Stroud Mansion, which was built in 1795, began housing the Monroe County Historical Association in 1921. It reopened in May 2026 following a three-year construction project that added a 13,000-square-foot Heritage Center. The Monroe County Historical Association preserves and promotes the region’s history and operates a museum, research library and year-round programming.
The Pike County Historical Society will receive $9,500, which will help cover maintenance, utilities and payroll. Founded in 1930, the society operates a museum in a historic 1904 mansion and maintains thousands of artifacts and records documenting Pike County’s history. It also offers educational programs, lectures, performances and other community events.
The grants are part of nearly $4 million awarded by the PHMC to 182 museums and historical organizations across 60 Pennsylvania counties through the 2026-27 Cultural and Historical Support Grant program. The program provides essential unrestricted operating support to qualifying institutions.
“Preserving our history is an investment in our future,” Probst said. “I’ll continue working with my colleagues to make sure the organizations that protect and share our local heritage have the resources they need to serve our communities.”
Probst represents the 189th Legislative District, which includes Delaware Water Gap, East Stroudsburg, and Stroudsburg boroughs, the eastern parts of Stroud and Middle Smithfield townships, Smithfield Township in Monroe County and Lehman, Porter and Delaware townships in Pike County.
