Sanchez announces $750K grant awarded to Salem Baptist Church

ABINGTON, Dec. 9 – State Rep. Ben Sanchez, D-Montgomery, announced that Salem Baptist Church of Abington, located in Abington Township, received a $750,000 grant to help fund campus renovations for an accessible community event and banquet space.

Renovations include accessibility upgrades, enhanced safety systems, upgraded mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and improved ventilation and airflow systems. This project will also create a full-service commercial kitchen with infrastructure to support handicap access to the space, and a 2,000 square foot community café on the church’s campus which will serve as a much-needed flexible and co-working space within the local area.

“This funding will help Salem Baptist Church become an accessible community center for people of all abilities. It’s highly rewarding to see state dollars being used toward inclusivity efforts right here in Montgomery County,” Sanchez said.

This grant comes from the Office of the Budget’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenue or other measures of economic activity.
