Rep. Ben Sanchez February 4, 2025 | 2:38 PM
HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – State Rep. Ben Sanchez, majority chair of the bicameral Legislative Audit Advisory Commission, announced that the commission met Tuesday and accepted the independent audit of the General Assembly’s finances for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
Sanchez said that as majority chair, his goal is to continue to ensure the commission fulfills its responsibility of keeping the public informed about the General Assembly’s finances.
“Transparency and accountability are essential when it comes to public funds,” Sanchez said. “By overseeing this independent audit conducted by certified public accountants, we’re helping ensure that taxpayers know legislative finances are managed carefully and responsibly.”
Sanchez said the audit the commission reviewed – conducted by the independent certified public accounting firm Boyer & Ritter LLC – revealed a $299.8 million reserve across both chambers and encompassing all legislative agencies and departments as of June 30, 2024.
The LAAC is responsible for conducting the annual financial audit under Article VIII, Section 10 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.
In addition to Sanchez, other commission members include state Rep. Jim Struzzi, R-Indiana; state Sens. Maria Collett, D-Bucks/Montgomery, and Chris Gebhard, R-Berks/Lancaster/Lebanon; and public members Peter Barsz, Phil Rudy and Ira Weiss.
