Sappey announces $1.4 million in state grants for local infrastructure projects

HARRISBURG, Jan. 22 – State Rep. Christina Sappey, D-Chester, today announced more than $1.4 million in state funding for infrastructure improvement projects in her legislative district.

“I’m very pleased that these tax dollars are coming back to our community,” Sappey said. “Investing in core infrastructure is essential not only for providing consistent, high-quality services to residents but also for supporting our overall quality of life.”

Sappey said $700,000 is headed to Avondale Borough from Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to resurface deteriorated roadways, construct new sidewalks and install ADA ramps on multiple streets located in the borough.

Avondale Borough also is receiving $415,252 from the Small Water and Sewer Grant Program for critical water pipe replacement.

Kennett Square Borough will receive $300,000 from this program to install an automated monitoring system throughout its sewer plant structures, helping identify operational issues and enhance safety.

“This grant funding highlights the importance of state investment in our communities,” Sappey said. “Delaying these investments only drives up costs, which affects all of us. Safe drinking water, reliable roads, and secure communities depend on this type of support.”
