Schweyer congratulates Dr. Carrie Rowe on Senate confirmation to serve as Secretary of Education

HARRISBURG, Dec. 11 – House Education Committee Majority Chair Peter Schweyer, is sharing his congratulations to Dr. Carrie Rowe on her Senate confirmation this week to serve as Secretary of Education.
“Dr. Rowe has been a true leader and advocate for public education in Pennsylvania, and I am incredibly pleased to see her receive bipartisan support in the Senate this week,” said Schweyer, (D-Lehigh). “Since becoming the Majority Chair of the Education Committee, Dr. Rowe and I share a wonderful and collaborative relationship focusing on supporting students, teachers and school administrators across Pennsylvania. I look forward to continuing our work with the Department of Education on fair and equitable education funding, ensuring safe and comfortable learning environments for students and teachers and expanding opportunities for career and technical education.”
Dr. Rowe brings 25 years of public education experience to her role as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). In this role, she provides guidance, support, and oversight to partners in the pre-K–12 field on topics ranging from structured literacy, educational stability, workforce needs, teacher recruitment and retention, and student mental health and well-being.
Dr. Rowe advocates for policies and programs that provide college and career pathways for every student, especially those that include access to expansive dual credit opportunities, high-intensity summer learning, and multilingual programs.
Schweyer is the Majority Chair of the Pennsylvania House Education Committee and represents the 134th Legislative District which serves a portion of the city of Allentown, all of Emmaus Borough and a portion of Salisbury Township in Lehigh County.
