SALISBURY TOWNSHIP, May 20 – State Reps. Ana T. Tiburcio and Peter Schweyer, both D-Lehigh, today announced Salisbury Township received $83,086 in Lehigh Local Share Account funds to be used towards pedestrian safety improvements.
The funding will be used for the construction of a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of South Dauphin Street and East Emmaus Avenue, which is right in front of the Salisbury High School campus.
This project includes installation of sidewalk and curbing on East Emmaus Avenue, as well as installation of ADA curb ramps and pedestrian warning systems. The awarded LSA funds will be used towards engineering, construction, and administrative costs. The total project cost is $157,956.
“I am proud to announce this funding towards a project that will greatly improve safety and accessibility for Salisbury Township students,” said Tiburcio. “This project will also improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians overall. Providing pedestrian warning systems and ADA access to sidewalks at this intersection is long overdue, and I am glad the LSA funds will make that happen. As lawmakers, it is our duty to ensure our constituents’ safety.”
“This funding supports critical pedestrian safety improvements at a dangerous intersection in Salisbury Township which will help keep the residents and the students of the Salisbury Township School District safe when they walk to school,” said Schweyer. “I am pleased to advocate with Rep. Tiburcio to bring this funding back to our community.”
