Davidson’s bill to strengthen Protection from Abuse Orders passed by PA House

HARRISBURG, Feb. 2 – State Rep. Nate Davidson, D-Cumberland/Dauphin, announced today that his legislation to strengthen protection from abuse orders (H.B. 1909) passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives by a 104-94 vote.

The bill would increase the severity of offenses committed in violation of a Protection from Abuse (PFA) order by one degree, up to and including a third-degree felony.

“Current laws allow repeat PFA offenders to continue contacting, harassing, and abusing their victims with minimal consequences,” Davidson said. “This forces survivors to face their abusers again and again. We have a solemn responsibility to protect our citizens—especially victims of crime, those in economic need, our children, and vulnerable seniors. With this legislation, we can hold accountable those who continue to disrespect the law and prey on the people they have already hurt.”

House Bill 1909 now moves to the state Senate for consideration.
