Dukes legislation to establish responsible AI policies for schools advances through House Education Committee

HARRISBURG, Oct. 6 – Today, legislation sponsored by state Rep. Brandon Dukes (H.B. 2786) to establish responsible artificial intelligence policies for schools advanced through the PA House of Representatives Education Committee.

The bill would require Pennsylvania schools to adopt a clear local policy governing the responsible use of AI by students and staff, including acceptable and prohibited uses, required human oversight of AI-generated content, and data transparency for students and families.

“With artificial intelligence use becoming more prevalent outside of the classroom, now is the time to set clear definitions and policies in our schools,” Dukes said. “Without these policies, every school in the commonwealth will be subject to questions of academic integrity, student privacy and transparency. I urge my House colleagues to take up this legislation and curb this uncertainty around AI use in our classrooms.”

House Bill 2786 will now head to the full House for consideration.
