WARRINGTON, Feb. 7 – State Rep. Brian Munroe introduced a bill today at Tamanend Middle School that would help make social media safer to navigate for children. House Bill 2017 , is bipartisan legislation that would put the following safeguards in place: Require social media companies to monitor the chats of two or more minors on the platform and notify parents or legal guardians of flagged sensitive or graphic content. Strengthen proof of age verification on social media platforms by requiring consent from a parent or legal guardian for anyone under 16 to open a social media account and notify parents or legal guardians if a child under 16 opens a social media account without consent. Prohibit data mining for users under the age of 18 and allow any individual to request the deletion of data that was mined while they were under the age of 18. Munroe crafted the legislation after meeting Max Jin, Luka Jonjic and Dylan Schwartz when they were students at Tamanend Middle School in 2023. The three, who are now freshmen at Central Bucks High School South, won an award from C-SPAN for their documentary, America’s Silent Struggle: Social Media’s Impact on Teens’ Mental Health . Brian Munroe D-Bucks County www.pahouse.com/Munroe Ivyland receives state funding to convert former air base property into park HARRISBURG, Jan. 16 – Ivyland Borough received a $122,188 grant through the state’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, state Rep. Brian Munroe announced. The funds will be used for the From Barracks to Blooms project, which will convert Ivyland’s property from the former Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster into a public park. In 1996, NAWC Warminster was realigned and is now closed. The property was transferred to the Bucks County Federal Lands Reuse Authority for nonmilitary redevelopment. “As a Navy veteran, I am delighted to see the former Navy base get redeveloped into an environmentally friendly public space for all to enjoy for generations to come,” Munroe said. “This grant should help fund a large portion of the project.” The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program allocates funds from the Marcellus Legacy Fund to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects. HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – S tate Rep. Brian Munroe and state Sen. Frank Farry and announced that the state has awarded over $1.4 million for three water and sewer projects in Bucks County, funded through the Commonwealth Financing Agency. Under the H2O PA grant, the Warminster Township Municipal Authority will receive $912,000 for construction to retrofit the Tennyson and Whittier basins. In addition, the North Wales Water Authority and Ivyland Borough will receive $120,400 and $422,301, respectively, through the PA Small Water and Sewer grant program . The North Wales Water Authority will use the funds to install a permanent backup generator at their disaster recovery facility in Warrington Township. Brian Munroe D-Bucks County www.pahouse.com/Munroe Munroe formally introduces elevator bill HARRISBURG, Oct. 17 – After circulating a co-sponsorship memo in September, state Rep. Brian Munroe, D- Bucks, officially introduced his bill that would aid residents living in multistory apartment buildings and condominiums. House Bill 1761 would require all new apartment buildings and condominiums with two or more floors to have at least two elevators. Current buildings would be exempted. The legislation stemmed from two separate incidents over two years that occurred in Munroe’s district in western Bucks County. In 2022, Centennial Station, located in Warminster Township, shut down the only elevators in six of its 10 buildings for repairs. Centennial Station has more than 400 condominiums and many of its elderly residents were unable to navigate the stairs. Earlier this year, Park Place, a 55-and-older community located in Warminster Township, was struck by lightning during one of the summer storms, which resulted in the only elevator in the building to stop working for more than seven weeks. HARRISBURG, Oct. 3 – State Rep. Brian Munroe, D–Bucks, was named to the PA House Commerce and Professional Licensure committees this week. The Commerce Committee evaluates legislation involving the banking and financial services industries. The committee has oversight over the Department of Banking, Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, the Securities Commission and the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority to ensure that Pennsylvania stays competitive in a world marketplace. The Professional Licensure Committee reviews bills that pertain to positions requiring licensing for qualified employees and businesses. Its scope includes businesses as diverse as funeral homes and cemeteries to auctioneers, pharmacists and beauticians. “These new assignments will help me serve the residents of western Bucks County and Pennsylvania,” Munroe said. The assignments are a result of H.R. 168, which allows for four additional members on 23 of the PA House’s 24 standing committee.
