Recognizing the Mothers of the 154th

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, I want to take a moment to recognize all the mothers, grandmothers, mothers in law, bonus moms, caregivers, and mother figures who keep our families and communities going every single day. Your patience, love, support, and ability to somehow find things that nobody else can find in the house deserve more appreciation than one Sunday in May can cover.

We are also entering an exciting season for students and families celebrating graduations across our community. Whether you’re finishing high school, college, trade school, or another educational program, congratulations on this major accomplishment. I know behind every graduate is a support system of family members, teachers, mentors, and friends cheering them on every step of the way.

To the graduates: enjoy the celebrations, take lots of pictures, and remember that nobody really knows what they’re doing immediately after graduation, no matter how confident they look in the cap and gown photos.

High Note

K. Leroy Irvis Days of Action

As Chair of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, I was proud to help lead this year’s 5th Annual K. Leroy Irvis Days of Action in Harrisburg.

Named in honor of the first Black Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the conference brought together legislators, educators, community leaders, advocates, students, and industry professionals from across the Commonwealth for meaningful conversations focused on building stronger pathways within the Black ecosystem.

Over two days, attendees participated in policy discussions and breakout sessions covering topics including workforce development, homeownership, Black maternal health, civic engagement, financial literacy, AI and Black tech, community health access, and the future of education. We also recognized student leaders during the James R. Roebuck Scholarship Ceremony and celebrated the next generation of changemakers across Pennsylvania.

I was proud to help lead conversations centered on equity, opportunity, and sustainable investment in our communities these past few days. The work of the Caucus is rooted in creating real pathways forward, and this year’s conference reflected the collaboration and innovation needed to continue moving Pennsylvania ahead.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, partnered and helped make this year’s Days of Action a success!

Jewish American Heritage Month

Jewish American Heritage Month

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans. From shaping our nation’s history to strengthening communities here in Pennsylvania, Jewish Americans have made lasting impacts across generations.

I’m proud to recognize this month and the many contributions of Jewish Americans in our community and across the country.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day

This weekend, we celebrate the incredible mothers, grandmothers, mothers in law and mother figures (bonus moms) who inspire us every day with their love, strength, and dedication. We also honor and remember those who are no longer with us, while cherishing their memories.

Whether you’re spending time with family, reflecting on loved ones, or simply taking a well-deserved moment for yourself, we hope your weekend is filled with joy, love, and appreciation.

Thank you for all that you do.

Expungement Clinic in June

I’m partnering with Congresswoman Madeleine Dean to host our Annual Expungement Clinic on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at her Glenside District Office.

To participate, individuals should bring their case information, including court records or minute orders, and must not be in violation, on parole, or on probation.

Weekly Trivia!
Congratulations! You've reached the end of the weekly email.

Did you know?

Pennsylvania has a state steam locomotive. Two, in fact! They are the K4s 1361 and K4s 3750

No. 3750 pulled Warren G. Harding's political campaign train during 1920. Three years later, it also hauled his funeral train from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland.
