I know that we’re not done yet so this email may be a bit premature, but I am so proud and thankful to my staff, our municipal leaders and the teams at PennDOT and PECO for their efforts to repave our major roadways. In the past few years we have finally addressed the most visible signs of crumbling infrastructure in our communities, our dilapidated state roads.
Whether it’s the massive work being done on Ashbourne or Church roads in Cheltenham, the repaving of Bethlehem Pike, Pennsylvania Avenue, Willow Grove Avenue, or even the brutal lumps on Cheltenham Avenue, our transportation infrastructure had been neglected for too long.
Over the next few weeks crews will be working diligently to mill and repave more of these vital roads in our community. We’re under a clock as some of this work must stop once the temperatures drop in the late fall, and much of this will be done in the evening hours to minimize the disruption on your daily commute.
Please be patient, protect the safety of our workers as you drive, and let’s look forward to smooth sailing… or driving, in the days ahead.

Springfield Goes Solar! ??
This Wednesday I was proud to represent our district at the Springfield Township Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Municipal Solar Project Installation at the Administration Building and Public Works Facility.
This project started with the township's Ready for 100 goal in 2019 and grew through years of work by Township officials, staff, community volunteers, and the Environmental Advisory Commission. Construction began in May 2026 and was completed in August.
The project includes 887 solar panels that will provide about 89% of the Township’s yearly municipal electricity needs. It will also help power the Library through shared energy credits.
The project is expected to prevent about 394,000 pounds of carbon pollution each year, the same as taking many cars off the road.
Thanks to federal, state, county, and utility funding, the project’s original cost of $629,125 was greatly reduced. The Township received $250,000 from Montgomery County, along with other incentives. Based on energy savings, it is expected that the project will pay for itself in less than three years.
This is a great example of how local government can save taxpayer money while protecting our environment and building a cleaner future for Springfield Township.

Changes Coming to Medicaid in Pennsylvania
|
Big changes are coming to Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program beginning January 1, 2027. Under a new federal law, some adults ages 19–64 will need to meet new work and community-engagement requirements, and some Medicaid recipients will have their eligibility reviewed every six months instead of annually.
If you receive Medicaid, it is important to make sure DHS has your current address and contact information so you do not miss notices about your benefits. You can update your information through COMPASS and sign up for text and email alerts from DHS.
If you receive a notice from DHS or need help updating your information, my office can submit changes to DHS and communicate with the department on your behalf to help make sure your information is received and your case is properly updated. Email us at RepNelson@PAHouse.net or call 215-572-5210.
Learn more about the upcoming Medicaid changes here. You can also call the HR1 FAQ Line at 1-877-883-6383.
