It's Time for School - Here's How You Can Prepare!

The start of a new school year is always a crazy time for those of us with any proximity to it. Dropping kids off at college, the beginning of senior year, a new building, new teachers, 25 new students, and for those of you with your first child heading off to kindergarten, the anxiety and nervousness and excitement. The energy is palpable. For many of our parents and students, the beginning of a new school year is a challenge. Perhaps your last year was not a great one and, while you’re hoping to start fresh on Monday, starting fresh is not as easy as it sounds. Scars often take more than a few summer weeks to heal.

Education is a beautiful combination of art and science. Imperfect beings are molding impressionable young minds, planting seeds, forging core memories, deploying “evidence-based” instructional practices, and fighting for attention. Students are learning social skills, reading skills, reasoning, self-exploration, interrogating value sets, and trying to enjoy recess. We’ve done this dance before, but this year is different. Every year is inexplicably and unpredictably different.

For the past several years I have not only crafted policy that has assisted in the daily functioning of public education, secured funding for our districts, and boldly challenged our status quo to ensure our students are at the forefront of our minds in Harrisburg, but I have prioritized spending time with our students in classrooms and on the ball field. This year will be different, but my offer remains the same. Invite me into your building. I would love to hear from and speak with your kids. We’re only going to get one crack at the 2026-27 school year. Let’s make this our best year yet!!!

High Note

Lynnewood Gardens

I had a great time getting ready for the new school year with the residents of Lynnewood Gardens! Our office joined residents for a back-to-school event where we handed out backpacks to local students to help them start the year off on the right foot.

It was great to spend some time with families in the community, meet some of our youngest neighbors, and help make sure students have what they need for a successful school year. Thank you to everyone at Lynnewood Gardens who came out and made it such a fun afternoon!

Meet Cyan, Indigo, & Navy!

Navy, Indigo, and Cyan are 9-week-old Great Pyrenees/Rough Collie puppies who have already overcome more than most puppies do in their first few weeks of life.

A Lancaster farmer discovered that his dog had passed away and, unexpectedly, left behind a litter of puppies he didn't know about. Without their mother, the odds were stacked against these three little fighters. But thanks to round-the-clock care, dedication, and plenty of love, Navy, Indigo, and Cyan grew into happy, healthy puppies with bright futures ahead of them.

Now they're doing what puppies do best: playing, exploring, cuddling, and charming everyone they meet. Raised around children, cats, and other dogs, they're sweet, loving, and well-socialized pups who enjoy being part of the action.

As livestock guardian dog breeds, they will grow into large, independent thinkers who thrive with families who understand the unique traits and needs of LGDs. They're looking for loving homes committed to proper training, socialization, and lifelong care.

After overcoming so much in their first days of life, Navy, Indigo, and Cyan are ready for their next chapter. Could one of these little survivors be the newest member of your family?

They will come spayed/neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations.
